Jr III Racing to Start IMSA Finale on Seventh Row

Braselton, Georgia (15 October 2020) – Jr III Racing will start the final race of the 2020 IMSA Prototype Challenge season from 12th on Friday (9:05AM ET, TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold). The father-son duo, Greg and Eric Palmer will share driving duties in the of the No. 3 Copps Industries Ligier JSP3 for the three-hour race at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.  With the sun shining for the first time on Thursday, Greg Palmer was tasked with qualifying in the 15-minute session. Palmer pushed the No. 3 machine for 11 laps, gaining speed with each trip around the 2.54-mile circuit. Coming down to the final seconds of the session, Palmer gained three-tenths of a second on his 10th lap to set a fastest time of 1:21.557-seconds slotting into 12th. The Palmers look to end the year with their fourth top-ten finish.

“Our qualifying session was an improvement from our last practice which allowed us to set a good lap time to start the race in 12th,” said Greg Palmer. “Driving the LMP3 requires a lot of

physical effort – even a 15-minute qualifying session takes a toll on your body. Every turn I am holding my breath while continuing to push myself and the car as much as I could. My goal for tomorrow is to put the car in a spot where I can hand it over to my son, Eric, and he is in position to race to the end and finish better than we have before.” Friday’s three-hour race will mark the final outing for the current generation Ligier JSP3. Jr III Racing is the first team to take delivery of the new gen Ligier with it arriving at its Mooresville-based shop next week.

The Palmers will take on Round Six of the 2020 IMSA Prototype Challenge season in the No. 3 Copps Industries Ligier at 9:05AM ET Friday, October 16th. Flag-to-flag coverage will be available on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold.
